Protecting Plants

There are many pest, weed and disease problems encountered in the garden, home and conservatory. To overcome these problems there are a number of simple, common sense steps that can help you protect your plants.

What you should do is:

  1. Check your plants regularly
  2. Identify problems early
  3. Deal with problems quickly
  4. Select the most appropriate method for your circumstances

For best results you should select from all the available methods (natural, chemical, cultural, biological) to keep pests, diseases and weeds under control and your garden and house plants looking great.

A recipe for success

  • Always start with healthy plants, and give them what they need - space, light, water and nutrients.
  • When possible, select plant varieties with pest and disease resistance.
  • Garden Care Chemical products are simple to use and give good results. Try a long lasting weed killer on your drive or patio which will kill the weeds and keep them away for several months. The right disease control product will keep your roses free of black spot if you begin treatment early in the season.
If you need advice, use the company help lines for how and when to apply these garden care products.
  • In many situations, cultural control may be best - you can use a hoe on the weeds that germinate in beds and borders in spring, and then mulch with a bark product to restrict weed growth.

The healthier and more varied your garden plants, the more abundant the insect life, with lots of good (beneficial) insects that eat the harmful ones.
