Leatherjackets are the more common of the two grubs. The grubs are legless grey/brown and the adult Leatherjackets (Daddy Long Legs) are common in summer and autumn and lay eggs in the lawn. These hatch and begin to cause really noticeable damage the following spring. The best time to tackle these is from mid August onwards, targeting the egg laying stage and preventing damage before it starts.
Animals and birds searching for grubs as food can cause secondary turf damage. Areas of the grass are scratched up by foxes, badgers, starlings and crows looking to feed on the grubs.
Lawn Grub Killer is applied as a drench and works both on contact with the pest and systemically through the grass.
Lawn Grub Killer will be available through most garden outlets from August 2006.
